What's on My Hook Right Now — and Why It Feels Just Right

As a U.S. History teacher, I spend a lot of time thinking about America — its story, its people, and what it means to mark the moments that matter. So when I started looking for my next crochet project, it felt completely natural to land on something patriotic.

This year is the 250th anniversary of America, and I wanted to do something to mark it. Not in a classroom way — I do plenty of that — but in a me way. So I cast on the Red Heart Colors of America Throw from Yarnspirations, and I am here for it.

A little personal connection, too.

My dad served in the Army, so I have always been extra patriotic. Making something that honors that — and this milestone anniversary just felt right. (I should have started it sooner, but I was a little busy with school.)

Why the Knit Picks Brave Worsted?

The pattern calls for a specific yarn, but I decided to use Knit Picks Brava Worsted yarn instead — and so far I'm really happy with that choice. It's soft and works up beautifully. I'm just getting started, so I'll be sharing updates as this throw comes together. If you love your country, have a veteran in your life, or just want a meaningful project to work on this year, come along for the ride.

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." — Joshua 1:9

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some granny squares to work on. 🧶
